Nongmaithem Pahari Lyrics
Nongmaithem Pahari, whose real name was Nongmaithem Chittaranjan Singh, was one of the most influential figures in modern Manipuri music. Born on 28 August 1934 in Imphal, Manipur, he helped popularize contemporary Meitei songs and is often regarded as a pioneer of modern Manipuri musical culture.
Apart from being a singer, he was also a composer, lyricist, writer, and cultural icon. His albums, especially Undying Melodies, produced timeless classics such as Ningsingli Meraagi Thabaldo, Eigi Eshei Saklaroi, and Nangi Maithong Yenglubada, which remain popular across generations in Manipur.
Pahari also played a major role in Manipuri cinema by composing music for films like Sanakeithel and Yairipok Thambalnu. Beyond music, he served as Station Director of All India Radio and Doordarshan and authored the book Eigi Diarydagi, reflecting on Manipur’s political and social history.
He passed away on 18 October 2006 in Imphal, but his legacy continues to inspire Manipuri artists and music lovers. Many people still refer to him as the “Melody King” of Manipur because of his immense contribution to Manipuri music and culture.
